The Castelli Beta RoS Jacket: The Protection of a Jacket, the Fit of a Jersey

By Stan Portus –  14 January 2021

The Castelli Beta RoS Jacket provides the essential wind and rain protection of a jacket but has the feel of a jersey making it perfect for the early months of the year. Unashamedly performance orientated, every part of the Beta Jacket is designed to have you riding your best even when the weather’s at its worst.

The tail end of winter, and the beginning of Spring. As the days start to get lighter and the temperature begins its slow rise upwards there is some amazing riding to be done, but more often than not we’re still reliant on heavier, encumbering winter clothing.

Enter the Castelli Beta RoS Jacket. With a lightweight design, race cut and Polartec® technology, the Beta combines the freedom of a jersey with the foul weather protection of a jacket. In short, the Beta Jacket will have you starting your season earlier and riding faster in no time.

Super Lightweight Design

Every feature of the Beta RoS Jacket comes together to create a jacket that is so light you need to feel it to believe it.

At 212g in a men's size large and 185g in a women's size small, the Beta is lighter than many long sleeve jerseys, but you will still have the same protection promised by many cycling jackets.

Wind and Rain Protection

Like all Castelli apparel that carries the Rain or Shine (RoS) label, the Beta Jacket is designed so you can dress for the temperature and not worry about the weather.

The Beta RoS Jacket makes this possible by using Polartec® NeoShell® fabric on the front and upper sleeves. This high-tech material is windproof and waterproof while being breathable. It is used on the front of the jacket and the bicep section of the sleeves to protect the parts of your body that are most exposed as you cut through the air, wind and rain.

On the back, forearms, side and waist, the jacket uses Castelli’s Nano Flex Light woven fabric. This is a highly breathable fabric that will help keep your core temperature regulated while also shedding light rain and blocking wind.

Performs Like a Jacket, Fits Like a Jersey

With a close-to-body fit and race orientated cut, the Beta is the apotheosis of no compromise, foul weather performance.

The combination of water and wind proof fabric makes the Beta cycling jacket which provides ideal protection for the inclement and changeable weather that we see coming out of winter and into Spring.

But the fabrics also have a four way stretch meaning Castelli has been able to make the cut of the Beta RoS Jacket like a jersey and minimise flapping, reflective of the high intensity and fast riding you’ll be doing in this jacket. The close cut also means the warming properties of the jacket can work better as they hug you closer.

Minimalist Design

There is nothing superfluous on the Castelli Beta Jacket. Well, maybe there is if you consider the large reflective band on the lower back unnecessary. But we’re of the opinion that some extra visibility is never a bad shout on the kind of cool grey days that call for the Beta.

A YKK® Vislon® zipper provides easy opening and closing even when the pace is high. 3 rear pockets are just the right size and keep any essential nutrition and supplies within easy reach.
