Cycling water bottles or bidons, if you prefer, are a food safe plastic container with a closable spout and a screw or push closed lid most now also contain a wide neck opening to facilitate mixing energy powders and the like. Cycling water bottles have a "standard" diameter of 74mm and usually have a volume of between 500 and 750 cl. They are still favoured over bladder system for road riding due to the ease of replenishing and lowering the centre of gravity.
Triathlon or Tri hydration systems feature a bottle in a dedicated mount to be set up on or between the aerobars this system is supplied with a drinking straw which allows the rider to hydrate while staying in an aero tuck position.
