Castelli’s collaboration with Team Sky means rider feedback directly informs the development of new products, each designed to give the team’s athletes an edge through superior aerodynamics, cooling, comfort or protection.
The relationship between the cycling’s most successful team and its most performance-obsessed apparel brand has already borne fruits for the enthusiast with new items and updates available through the Team Sky collection of Castelli products. Not everyone wants to sport team logos across their chest, however, which is where the Team Sky Inside collection comes in.
Each item is identical to the gear honed by Castelli for Team Sky – utilising the same cutting-edge fabrics and pro fit. But instead of the team sponsors writ large across the chest and legs, there’s a clean modern aesthetic – block colours taken from the Team Sky palette, a touch of the Team Sky stripe patterning and more inconspicuous team branding to show what’s really on the inside.
Other pro details include custom zipper pulls, Team Sky elastic and a space to write your name – used by the team riders to avoid sartorial mixups when on tour.
The range includes three jerseys. First up is the pros’ favourite, the Aero Race 5.1, which incorporates Castelli’s latest drag-reducing fabric technology to give an aerodynamic benefit. It also happens to be extremely comfortable and wicks sweat fast keep you cool.
For the hottest of days, it’s got to be the Climber’s 2.0 Jersey. Based on the same cut and shape of the AR jersey but with thinner, even more breathable material, it's perfect for those days in the mountains where heat transfer trumps all-out aero performance.
The Podio Jersey FZ is a performance design based on Castelli’s RS Superleggera concept but isn’t as compressive as the AR and Climber’s jerseys, making it the ideal choice for long training days.
Castelli’s Free Aero Race bib shorts use speed-enhancing fabrics to cheat the wind but are also designed for uncompromised comfort – perfect for Team Sky riders taking on over 30,000km each year. The Team Sky Inside Free Aero Race bibs feature Team Sky data print detailing on the Giro leg grippers and mesh bib straps.
For cooler and wet conditions, exclusive Team Sky Inside editions of the Gabba 3, Perfetto Long Sleeve and Perfetto Vest take centre stage – each based on Castelli’s original landmark Gabba design – to provide the perfect balance of water resistance, windproofing, insulation, breathability and aerodynamics.
Accompanying the wet weather protection is the Team Sky Inside Sorpasso Bibtight, which features the same ultra-soft Thermoflex Core Due fabric as the regular Sorpasso but trades the customary red fleecy finish on the inside for blue.
