Despite the summit height and average gradient measuring up as 2,340m and a modest 7.5% respectively, this climb should not be underestimated.
With a notoriously temperamental weather system and most of the climbing reserved for the last 2.5miles, with the gradient reaching 14% in this section, it’s no wonder this scenic yet deceptively challenging stretch has a reputation for exploding the leader board and dismaying even the most accomplished climbers, Merckx and Nibali included.
