The latest edition of HJC's lightest, airiest and most protective flagship helmet, the IBEX 3 introduces a host of new and improved technologies, giving it even more of a competitive edge.
First, it minimises the transfer of force to the brain in the event of a rotational impact through the inclusion of SLIDTM, Sliding Layer Impact Distribution. This gel-type pad works by displacing forward energy to minimise the impact on any one point, preventing injury.
The helmet's safety is further enhanced by a carbon shell and roll cage at the front and a reflective chin strap, which joins the already present reflective sticker in promoting night visibility. Meanwhile, its freshness is boosted by the inclusion of Ionic+® fabric, which is not only eco-friendly but halts the spread of natural bacteria generated during activity.
Headlining the improvements is a better fit, delivered by the SELFIT PROTM adjustment system, which includes a 5 Step Snap Fit mechanism at the side of the helmet with micro-adjustment capabilities and a redesigned, similarly precise vertical fitment mechanism. There's also an anti-vibration EVATM pad and an enlarged surface area at the rear for added comfort.
The IBEX's superior ventilation capabilities, driven by HJC's COOLPATHTM technology, have been an important ingredient in its peloton popularity. COOLPATHTM replaces the inner padding of the helmet, maximising airflow through its air channel system and ventury dynamics. The padding has been expanded to optimise the helmet's comfort and now includes a larger wind exposure area and 18 vents.
This iteration of the IBEX was designed with the help of computational fluid dynamics and tested in the wind tunnel, so its shape has been refined and streamlined to be more aerodynamic, with 1% less drag force. The goggle mount, too, has been improved and now features a non-slip pad, offering a more stable fit for your eyewear.
The IBEX 3 is reinforced by skeleton frames at the front and rear, designed to cover varying impact points, and a double in-moulded polycarbonate shell for safety. Available in a choice of colours and weighing in at a modest 260g in its medium size, it offers optimum support to any performance-oriented cyclist.
