ENVE’s new SES 3.4 AR wheelset is the latest addition to the US brand’s All-Road range, which promises to deliver lightweight aerodynamic efficiency with the comfort of wider tyres and increased pinch-puncture protection.
Building on the success of the SES 4.5 AR, which launched in 2016 and has since become ENVE’s most popular wheelset in North America, the 3.4 AR offers a new option for riders seeking the benefits of higher volume tyres –a plush ride with improved rolling resistance efficiency and more grip.
“The SES 3.4 AR comes in response to the requests from our customers who love the SES AR platform but desired a wheelset that was shallower, delivered greater versatility, and maximised weight savings,” says ENVE’s VP of Commercial, Brandt Furgerson. “In other words, the people wanted an SES 3.4, but with the features and benefits inherent to the SES AR platform.”
As with all ENVE’s SES wheels, the front and rear rims feature asymmetric geometries to maximise aero performance. The front rim is 39mm deep and 31.2mm wide while the rear is 43mm deep and 30.5mm wide, which combined with ENVE’s exclusive hand-made carbon construction has resulted in a disc-specific wheelset that weights the same as the SES 3.4 Disc, yet is also a little quicker in wind-tunnel tests.
The wheels also confirm ENVE’s commitment to the evolution road tubeless with the 3.4 AR featuring the brand’s patent-pending Wide Hookless Bead technology found on its M Series and G Series wheels. This exclusive teardrop-shaped rim profile, which hugely reduces the chance of pinch punctures, meaning the 3.4 AR can truly be the one-wheel quiver for mixed terrain riding or attacking the cobbles.
So, with many of the world’s most aerodynamic race bikes now capable of accommodating 28 to 32mm tyres, the 3.4 AR is the natural choice for comfort, aerodynamics, climbing and all-around versatility day-in, day-out.
The SES 3.4 AR wheelsets are due to be available from Saddleback and our authorised ENVE stockists from May.
