Sidi Is The Choice Shoe For Giro 102
By Saddleback Ltd – 13 May 2019
This year’s Giro d’Italia commenced on Saturday in Bologna with 28 of the 176 athletes vying for victory adorned with Sidi shoes.
It is fitting that riders from over eight teams, representing 11 different countries will be experiencing Italy’s greatest cycling race in shoes that have been handcrafted and worn to victory in Italy for over five decades.
Sidi’s top-tier Shot and Wire Carbon 2 shoes are the choice shoe for professional athletes who not only value unrivalled performance but have a penchant for racing romance.
Team Katusha Alpecin and Team Bahrain Merida are racing solely with Sidi as their official sponsor for the 102nd Giro.
Spearheaded by Vincenzo Nibali, who is one of only seven riders ever to have won all of the three Grand Tours, Team Bahrain Merida have their eyes firmly set on the Maglia Rosa this year. Their timeless team shoes are also available in a limited-edition run for fans.
Team Katusha Alpecin are also gunning for podium placement with Ilnur Zakarin leading a promising line-up of riders wearing Sidi throughout the race.
Sidi’s showing at this year's Giro extends into the inaugural Team Ineos, with Sebastian Henao, Jhonatan Narvaez, Ivan Sosa and Pavel Sivakov choosing Sidi.
Star Colombian climber, Esteban Chaves, of Team Mitchelton-Scott, will be also wearing Sidi as he tackles some of Italy’s most beautiful and gruelling mountain passes, whilst all-out sprinter Jakub Mareczko of Team CCC will be wearing his tried and trusted Wire Carbon 2 shoes.
In a continuation of the prestigious partnership between the Giro and Sidi, a custom limited-run pair of Sidi Ergo 5 shoes are the official shoe for this year’s race. Their simple and considered matt finish evokes racing nostalgia but remains firmly at the cutting edge of progressive footwear technology.
At Saddleback we’ll be closely following the Giro over the coming weeks and can’t wait to see some of our favourite shoes being worn to victory in this most spectacular of races.
