Sidi Sixty: Gold
By Stan Portus – 19 June 2020
Second in a series of exclusive versions of the Sidi Sixty, the Sidi Sixty Gold celebrates the Italian shoe company’s illustrious history and the young yellow jersey champion Egan Bernal.
To celebrate its sixtieth anniversary, Sidi brought together many of its classic design style and cutting edge technical features to create the Sidi Sixty. Launched at the end of last year, the Sixty has already graced the pro peloton with riders such as Rigoberto Uran, Mikel Landa, and Egan Bernal.
The gold version was originally created exclusively for Bernal to celebrate his golden year, becoming the first rider from Colombia to win the 106th Tour de France at the remarkable age of 22. But Sidi has now released the Sidi Sixty gold in a limited run, continuing on from the limited edition Sidi Sixty Python.
The young prodigy’s victory marks the beginning of what will surely be an incredible career as a pro, as well as continuing Sidi’s legacy at the top of the sport – Bernal’s success was the 15th time Sidi has conquered the Grand Boucle.
Dino Signori, Sidi’s founder, presented Bernal with the gold shoe at the end of last year.
The gold shoe features a mix of iconic Sidi features and innovative solutions, such as the Techno 4 closure. The Sixty is ideal for climbers such as Bernal due to the lightweight Vent Carbon Sole. The sole is stiff but constructed in a way that introduces some give in the toe box for all-day comfort. The upper is made from TechPro microfibre which is an eco-friendly leatherette offering durability and water-repellency while retaining breathability.
Worthy of a champion in performance and looks, the Sidi Sixty Gold is the perfect tribute to Sidi’s history and cycling’s future.
