Sidi Sixty in the Pro Peloton
By Stan Portus – 19 February 2020
The Sidi Sixty Road Shoe marks the Italian cycling shoe company’s 60th anniversary. Since its announcement last year, the shoe has already been worn by some of the World’s top riders.
Sidi is marking its 60th anniversary with the all-new Sidi Sixty. The shoe draws on the company’s prestigious history, bringing together many of Sidi’s classic features, world leading innovations, and the brand’s unmistakable style. The large Sidi lettering on the side and the sleek heel design is reminiscent of some of Dino Signori’s earliest creations.
The Sidi Sixty has already begun to make appearances in the pro peloton this year. The anniversary shoe has been spotted on the feet of some of the world’s best riders and has already begun to appear on some podiums – even this early in the 2020 season.
Egan Bernal
Egan Bernal was one of the first riders to get their hands on a pair of the new Sidis. Dino Signori himself gave Bernal a custom-made gold pair when Bernal visited Sidi’s HQ last year. Sidi presented Bernal with the shoes to commemorate his victory at the Tour – Sidi’s 15th win of the Grand Boucle, and the first for a Colombian.
Since then Bernal has raced in the Sixty. Most recently at the Colombian Nationals, where despite a nasty crash he came back to take 2nd place, and at the Tour of Colombia.
Pavel Sivakov
Another Team Ineos rider has been wearing the Sidi Sixty this season. Pavel Sivakov wore the road shoes on his recent missions in the Southern Hemisphere. Sivakov took the Young Rider’s jersey at the Tour Down Under, finished 2nd at the Cadel Evans Great Oceans Race, and put in some solid time off the front of the peloton at the inaugural Race Torquay.
Rigoberto Uran and Alberto Bettiol
Rigoberto Uran has been spotted in the Sixty, sharing several pictures and videos of himself in the all-white versions. He was recently prepping for the Tour of Colombia in the cycling shoe.
Alberto Bettiol is also wearing the new Sidis. He is challenging his followers on Instagram to guess how many kilometres he’ll put in wearing the shoes. We’re hoping to see Bettiol make a big impact at the Spring Classics like he did last year claiming his first pro victory at the Ronde Van Vlaaderen.
Sidi Sixty on the feet of the pros
The Sidi Sixty is bound to make appearances throughout the coming season in the pro ranks. We’ll have to wait to see if Bernal brings out his golden Sixty shoes again or keeps them as a memento of his first GC victory at a Grand Tour.
It isn’t only the pros who will get their hands on special versions of an already very special shoe. In addition to the blue, black, red, and white colour ways Sidi will soon be releasing a limited-edition Sidi Sixty Python snakeskin version.
