The Waveform pedals are Wolf Tooth’s latest offering. Designed and manufactured in the USA, they're indicative of the new direction the company is taking with its products, which include the recently released Resolve Dropper Post.
Why pedals? Surely the ones already on the market are good enough? When we asked Brendan Moore (Wolf Tooth's co-founder and owner) how he chooses what products to make, he commented “If we don’t think we can make a product that already exists in the market better, we won’t make it.” So, in the eyes of Wolf Tooth, there is room for improvement in the design of the humble pedal.
The shape of things to come
Each pedal's platform is made from 6061-T6 aluminium and comes with eleven 304 Stainless pins on each side for optimum grip. The body has been designed with rough terrain in mind, with a tapered leading edge that enables the pedal to deflect ground strikes and keeps the rider on course. It also exhibits an unusual dual concavity that secures your feet in place, both front-to-back and side-to-side. The Waveform is therefore one of the most secure flat pedals on the market, offering confidence inspiring levels of grip.
Two sizes available
Offering further choice for optimum performance, the Waveform pedals can be purchased in two sizes. The larger option has a 112 x 106mm platform and weighs in at 400g, whereas the smaller option has a 105 x 99mm platform and weighs 380g. Why two sizes? How can two different riders, with hugely contrasting shoe sizes, not need pedals of differing sizes? The choice of pedals means all riders, whether they have large or small feet, can experience the same fit and performance with no compromise!
Right to repair: the green pedal
Wolf Tooth’s ‘Right to Repair’ policy is a key consideration whenever the brand's team is designing and bringing a new product to the market. Duly, the Waveform pedals are fully serviceable, with every part readily available to purchase as a spare, and come with a two-year limited warranty.
To minimize the requirement to repair the pedals in the first place, Wolf Tooth has developed a custom radial seal that keeps mud at bay and limits contamination to the bushing and bearings. The brand has even gone the extra mile to design custom, low-friction sealed bearings for this pedal, so that if some grime gets in, they are sealed and performance won’t be hindered. Wolf Tooth has used three high-precision bearings and one Igus bushing to give the pedals a buttery smooth feel. They are thus designed to cope with the harshest conditions the UK winter can throw at them.
The Waveform pedals are a good example of a product that many others have made, but Wolf Tooth has evolved and perfected. Through some ingenious concepts, they have delivered the ultimate set of flat pedals that should be the last you will ever own.
“No matter how rough a rock garden or set of roots, my feet just don’t budge on the pedal. It was really obvious from the get-go how attached you were, I’m still yet to drop a pedal on them.”
